On to Applique'

Here is my progress so far on the Owlie quilt. Next step is the applique over the top of the block. I wanted to share a picture before, so that you can see what I started with before all the pretties were added. I ordered some yo yo's done in similar colors to add as well. I am just crossing my fingers that the image in my head, comes out on this quilt.

Don't forget the Giveaway ends tomorrow at 5 pm. Next one will start on March 8th and it's a great one!! If you would like free advertisement on my blog, please email me at terriharlan.rocketmail.com. All I ask in return is that you provide a giveaway for my readers. The next open slot is April 19th.

Everyone have a great Saturday!!

A Little Sunshine on a gloomy day.

So today I looked out the window, and saw the big beautiful sun. We decided to go out to breakfast as a family. We all get dressed, and walked outside to the FREEZING COLD! Why does the weather have to be so deceiving here in the Northwest?

So Me and Sophia stayed in the rest of the day sewing, Look at this....

Pretty cool huh. I made a few new crayon wallets today. I just love the colors so bright and cheery. It made our gloomy day a whole lot better. Wouldn't you like to buy one? You can here. I do custom orders to.

Although it was cold outside, we sure had fun staying indoors watching the sun blaze in through the windows. What a Sew-Fantastic Day!!

Sophia's Polly Quilt Block # 1

The first block is complete.... Free-hand 12x12 inch patchwork and applique block. This is the first of what will be 6 blocks for now. I might decide to do more when it gets closer to being an actual quilt.

This will be Sophia's first quilt, so I had to put in lots of pink. Of course I got this fabric from the same Etsy shop that is providing our giveaway this week. FABRIC SUPPLIES.

Sophie was playing with them in the store last week when we decided to pick up a few fat quarters to see if we became inspired. Yes by we, I mean Sophie and I. She helps inspire me! I quickly decided a means for a quilt in my head and ordered more fabric. I can't help it, it really is an addiction.
This is the first block. What do you think?

Sneak Peak

I have not gotten a lot of time to work on my owl quilt but I am almost to the applique part. A simple 4 patch quilt, in owl print with an appliqued border? Yeah that sounds good.

Here is a sneak peak on my next project. Polly goes to
Paris....Sophie picked this out at the craft store last week. I ordered some more so we can start a new quilt for her. Stay tuned for the post......

Meanwhile if you have not yet entered my giveaway you can do so here.

If you would like me to host a giveaway for your shop, or add your store button to our sidebar, feel free to email me.

New Craft Monday - Ribbon Covered Barrettes

My Mom is already feeling a little more comfortable, swaying to her crafty side. This week we attempted another craft that I had never made. I was trying to keep it simple for her today so we never made it to the bows. However we did embellish a few of the barrettes.

Supplies were: Scissors, grosgrain ribbons, alligator clips, hot glue gun or industrial glue, lighter, and patience. We measured the ribbon to go around the whole barrette, then glued accordingly using extra clips to keep the ribbon from shifting. (see picture below)It was quite easy after the first set, we began to get the hang of it. I also learned how to curl ribbon and make Korker bows.

We just embellished with what I already had laying around, buttons, and yo yo's from yoyo cottage.
Like I said we did not get a chance to do the boutique bows today, but we will eventually. I did notice that people were charging for instructions on how to make boutique bows, considering how easy it is I don't really think that is right. So if you want to learn how to make them I found a great FREE site called Girly Things go check it out, and learn how to make bows for free.

See how pretty they look in Sophia's hair, she just loved them. Of course we didn't make any the same yet so she will have to have mis-matched for now. I hope you all enjoy making these, let me know if you need help. It really is a fun project and easy to.

Organization Day #2

So I guess I have come to terms with the fact that I probably will not have a craft room. At least until Sophia grows up. Although we have an extra room, I have to share it with my husband. Technically it is an office, but me and him split the walk-in closet. He has the other half filled with computer parts and archery accessories.
My problem was, how do I fit all my crafts in a small space and still be able to find things and see somewhat of a visual. I am easily inspired by my visual experiences. I see a piece of fabric and in pops an idea. So I wanted to be able to have easy access to most items.
As we were browsing our local Fred Myer today I came across these hangers for sweaters. You will never guess what I did......

I used them as shelves. I almost insatlled shelves into the wall the morning before. Now I am so glad that I didn't. So my half of this closet looks huge to me now because I have fit so much, in such a small space. (man I should be on one of those TLC shows).

Check it out, cool huh. It's ok you can copy it :P

I will post about it again when I am finished. I gotta unload all my fabric bins still. I am sure it wont all fit here, but at least the stuff I want to look at more often sure will.

Winner Winner Fabric Dinner?

Ok ...The day we were all waiting for. 2 lucky winners have been drawn by Random.org. Sorry it took so long, I had to make sure everyone's extra entries were put in. There were a total of 97 entries in this weeks GIVEAWAY. Here are the 2 lucky winners.....

Yes I do realize that I started the Generator at 0 however I left it that way because both winners were the same one number down. Thanks for understanding. My Mistake

Number 87 Linda B. Said...
I adore Valori Wells fabric designs! I visit her store every year when we vacation in Central Oregon. I always walk in the Stitchin' Post and wonder why the quilt shops in my area don't knock me speechless like that one, and it's because of Valorie!I will post about this on my blog and I will follow you. Gene Black mentioned this, and now I have found a wonderful, unique blog to follow.

And winner number 2 is.....

Number 63 Carlotta said...

Arriving From Japan

Yay It's here. Positively the fastest package I have ever received from outside the U.S.A. So those of you who did not see the earlier post back when I won a 20 dollar gift certificate to Matatabi This was the first time I have ever bought Japanese fabrics. I just seemed to get interested in them the last few months, but they were quite spendy. So I entered a Giveaway and Won! This was my loot!

Now that I have received the fabric, I know why they are a little costlier then other fabrics. This was the most high Quality fabric I have ever purchased. Most of them were a linen mix but even the Cotton apples were thick and heavy in weight. Almost like a decor fabric but softer.

Frances even left me a nice little note inside to say thank you. I am officially hooked. Beautiful fabrics, and Super fast shipping. My 2 favorite things.

So Guess what Christina... Cheeky Bunny is here and wrapped all pretty for you, looks like it's time for a get together and some coffee. Even if it's with the kids.
:P
Go check out the shop Matatabi you will love it.

Laughing Cat

I just had to share. I came across this browsing google the other day. Doesn't it just look like this cat is about to bust up laughing? Oh how easily I am amused.

Heads up all you quilters .. When Sophie goes down for her nap I plan to list my DE-Stash. There are about 6 or 7 large bags of fabric in mostly large cuts, that I am practically giving away. Check my Etsy Store later for first pick.

Progress and Organization

Coming along great so far......

Well I got quite of bit of sewing done today almost ready to put the owlie quilt all together and attach borders on the. Then next is the applique part which is time consuming.
I promised myself I was going to get my crafts organized this week. Everything just started to become a huge mess since I closed my store. I only closed it because I had no time to create or sew let alone get housework done, after the baby was born. Something about the first few months that seem to drag, yet nothing gets done.
Now that I have time to sew again, since my body has come accustomed to not getting sleep and eating like a bird.
Day one of Organizing went well I am hoping to finish most of it tomorrow if not all. I really hope this makes life easier. My husband thinks I should narrow my hobby to maybe one or two crafts. I don't think that will ever happen.
Only 2 more days for the GIVEAWAY enter now for your chance to win.

New Craft Monday -Scrabble Tile Pendants

My mother has never really been very crafty. As much as she would like to be I think she tends to shy away from crafts due to her frustration with them. She still needs to realize that everything she makes will not necessarily come out the exact way someone else's did.

We decided to have her come over on Mondays and we would both do a craft together. This week was learning to make the glass pedants. I bought a small kit on Etsy from Annie Howes.

The kit came with everything on how to make them including the PDF Instructions sent to my email box. You will still need a few small items like a sponge, and a toothpick, as well as an exacto-knife. I highly recommend her easy peasey how to Kits.

To My Surprise when I opened the kit, there everything was. Details were also not lacking in this kit. It was beautiful to the eye and easy to understand. Of course the Instructions were very well written as well, so that helped. Neither of us had ever made one before. Not only was it fun, but our first one came out really cool. I can't wait to wear it.

Me and my mother did change it slightly by using fabric instead of paper so that I could use a piece of the owl from my new fabric.

They turned out very nicely, and now I have a new owlie necklace.

Owlie Surprise

My Creative little head tends to come up with some great ideas, that usually don't come out the way I picture them in my head. However this idea I hope will be great! I have finally though up a great quilt to make with owlie fabrics.
These are some of the fabrics I just ordered and they came yesterday. I am going to do a simple 4 inch squares on the front with all these fabrics. I think I want a lighter color in between but have not made a solid decision yet.

Then on the back I am planning a great big applique owlie. Maybe with a mod looking tree and some bare branches with a few leaves dropping around.

As I picture it in my head I get more excited. This could be the coolest Idea I have ever had. OK Maybe not the coolest.

I am hoping the mix of patchwork squares and applique blend together nicely. The quilting design would probly have to be based off the applique side as well. What do you think?
I have most of the week to work on it so I will post my progress. Might take a few weeks. I tend to put a lot of detail into applique which equals twice the time

It ends this week

Ohh Pretties...

My Package came today from Fabric Supplies. My eyes just gazed in amazement for a few minutes. How cool is this fabric. The first time I saw it I had to have it that minute. Lucky for me they ship fast.

This is a brand new collection From Robert Kaufman. The line is called Monaluna Birds in Spring the Metro Market Line From What I hear there is another line that coordinated with this one called Spring Mingle.

I have yet to decide what I will do with this fabric, I just had to have it. I am sure it will eventually be something great. This fabric was destined to fester in my closet-o-fabric until my inspiration discovers it's destination.

****************************

On a Funny note.. I came across this today and the blog owner gave me permission to post it as well.
It was printed in a Baltimore newspaper, and drawn/written by an elementary student and her embarrassed mother.

Dear Teacher,I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer. I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were fighting over who would get it. Her picture doesn't show me dancing around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling the last snow shovel we had at Home Depot. From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.

Sincerely, Mother

Crayon Wallet pattern finished

I have spent all day revising this pattern. Total of three made completely. I have decided that I do like the idea of having a coloring notebook inside the wallet as well as the crayons. So I added that. I also realized that I was having a blond moment, and forgot that I was using Jumbo crayons. So I needed more room between the fabric. All in all it came out great I am happy with the end result. It's simple, yet sleek and sassy all at the same time. Maybe I will make different version of it for different ages. Who knows.. all I can say is I am glad it's finished.

Sorry about the terrible photos I am not sure whats wrong with my camera yet. Maybe there was not as much light as I thought there was in that room.

Today's Project crayon wallet

Well this is what I am working on today. I got the great idea to try one out. I did not buy a pattern because I thought I would design my own version of the crayon roll. My first thought was I would have to make it toddler friendly of course but for most any age. After all it is never to young to start coloring. It had to be compact to fit in our to-go bag, and the closure had to be kid friendly as well.
This is what I came up with. I will put a tutorial up after I get all the kinks out. After all this is only the first one. I Just grabbed some scrap fabrics and this is the result. I might just list a few on Etsy to have them available to people who don't have the time to make one themselves.
*****
The closure is a Velcro. Easy peasy for toddlers to open and close.

It Holds 8 Jumbo washable Crayola crayons. Included when put on Etsy of course.
Folds together like a wallet. What little girl doesn't want a wallet to go in her little purse. What boy doesn't want to be like dad and have one to.

Finished product !! What do you think. If your interested in one I should have them up on etsy very soon. I am also selling them at our local bazaar in march. Or you can follow my blog for the tutorial coming soon, so you can make one yourself. I just need to make my measurements more precise.
Sophie already wants one.

Girls night out

Last night was a much needed night out with the girls. We celebrated my birthday last night with Yummy peanut chicken ya ya rolls from Cactus ya ya, red apple martini's, and a great company
.
The movie we saw "He's just not that into you" Was great!! However my friend says I should warn those who want to see it. Depending on your relationship status at the time of watching, you will either love it.... or hate it.
We all had a much needed night out of the house. Even though I missed my baby girl dearly, it felt good to see so many of my close friends again.

Presentation makes all the difference

This just came on Thursday I bought it on Etsy from one of my now favorite fabric dealers. http://www.fabricpalooza.etsy.com/
She has a wonderful shop. I am not just writing to let you know about the fabric I got this week, but how my packaged was received in the mail. The fabric is called OLIVE ROSE by Valori Wells for FreeSpirit
As I opened the priority mail envelope, the package was wrapped in bright pink tissue paper. tied off with a strip piece of the Aqua ribbon fabric from the Katie jump rope line. (also a fabric I had ordered)
Inside was the beautiful fabrics I had ordered with an invoice a cute card announcing her shop, and a sweet message from Karen herself.
Also included was another piece of fabric that I did not order however it was a part of the collection that matched the other fabrics I did in fact order. The piece measured 6x20 or something, great size for almost any project. I was just completely amazed that not only was so much time taken presenting my package. I received free fabric!!!
I guess all I have to say is thank you Karen for making my shopping experience SEW wonderful! I will definitely be back!
