Sunday Craft Room Project

Sunday Project, originally uploaded by sewfantastic2009.

Today me and little Sophia stopped by our local Craft Warehouse to pick up some fabric. We couldn't resist these cute little glass Jars. Here was the first thing that came to mind when we saw them.
Something to deocrate our craft room.

This is how we made it.
Supplies::

All of these things were found at our local craft supply store. Additional tools that were need are, small screwdriver set
picture hooks to nail into board back.
scissors
hammer
paper towel

First we took the plain board and dobbled a few drops of this pretty Aqua paint on it. Then with a paper towel we smoothed it into the wood, making sure to still keep the woodgrain like look of the board. Just enought to tint it to the color aqua was all it needed. Let it dry before going any further.

Then we measured 3 equal sections to install the coat hooks to the board. Two little screws kept these little babies down and durable.

After the hooks were installed we cut out the words of the phrase we choose and moved them around until they were in a spot that we liked most.
Using the popcicle stick provided in the kit press the paper over the letters to make them stick to the board. When you think they have a nice grip, remove the paper slowly making sure to not catch any of the letters.

After you are finished flip the board over and install the picture hanger, so that the board can hang on the wall.

You can embelish the board with stickers, buttons, fabric and more. Then hang your favorite Jars on the hooks and VIOLLA!!

A pretty sewing room decoration!

Keep on Keeping On

This project turned out a little hard, but nothing that I didn't expect. I did decide to go with the handkerchief linen as it was much more lightweight. With all the folding that is involved I though in the long run this would be better.
I think for any tips that might be useful if you want to try this. I would recommend this fabric using a lot of starch. I cut the linen oversized, then starched it and iron it to get a slighter stiff feel. Then I cut the square out that I needed.
As far as the color, I would wait to add that at the end when all the blocks line up. The reason for this is because the points I think show to much thread doing them separately.
Have you tried this yet??
More to come, our sewing retreat is this weekend. YAY!!! I am SEW freaking excited!!!

Sunday Stash :: Kona

Words cannot even describe my great love for Kona cotton right now. It's like a pretty little rainbow of wonderfulness (is that a word?)

Thanks to the most inspiring Elizabeth and all of her wonderful projects, my love for Kona is even greater than before. Every time she uses a pop of Kona it just brightens up everything and inspires me even more to make more time for my quilting projects.

Over the last few months I have found a wonderful source for my Kona as well. Sue over at Blueberry Buckle is the best place to get your very own Kona solids. She has the best prices and the biggest selection out of everyone on etsy Plus she ships fast and is SEW easy to work with. Her goal is to be able to offer every color from the Kona line eventually. Stop by Sue's shop when you get some time and see all the wonderful colors she has to offer, with more arriving every day.

On another note if you missed out on the mini shopper GIVEAWAY!!!, Here is another chance. My friend Cass from Australia is giving away another one from my shop, of your choice. Plus a great shop discount. Stop by and see Cass for more details.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, keep on Sewing!!

First Attempt :: Practice Practice

Well, I attempted the Cathedral Window today. I wanted to practice a bit while I was still waiting on my linen to arrive. Although the tutorial I found is super easy to follow along, I do have a few pointers.

Practice, Practice!! I am glad that I decided to use up some scraps an white Kona to practice first. It quickly became evident that matching points and seams, is very important to the process. I also pulled this off in a hour with a toddler pulling at my pant leg so I think it came out good for that reason alone.

I stopped with one block after I realized the wonky-ness of my square was really not what I was looking for.

I decided to go with Heathers version and make them larger blocks then the tutorial I had found. So I started with a 15x15 inch block of Kona. I think I will also try the smaller version next to see how that comes out for me.
Quilters don't be scared of this really. Take a gander over to see the tutorial here. It really is simple, and this tutorial is fantastic as to not add any unnecessary steps to confuse you. It's very simple and to the point. Even I did it.

Although this block will never get a chance to be in a quilt. Sophia's little pig Arnold just fancies it as a little blanket.

Pillow Swap peak :: Inspiration

Thank you to everyone who approved the colors in my last post. Now on to design! I am officially going to attempt the Cathedral window pattern. Not only am I going to attempt this for the first time, but I am going to use a linen instead of a Kona for my main fabric. Talk about preparing myself for a little frustration.

So picture this::

a cathedral window done with natural linen and accented with bright oranges and aqua's!

Sounds dreamy huh!

I hope I can do it. I found a super tutorial that makes it SEW easy to sew along with, so I think this will be a good thing. I will share with you all very very soon.

Pillow Talk Swap:: Sneak Peak

Well, this time I did it. I joined the pillow talk swap over on flicker. I wanted so Badly to join the last round, but unfortunately time did not allow that to happen. I spent the day today brainstorming some color combo's that might pop if I paired them up with some natural colored linen. I pulled the above fabrics today for my pillow.
Although I am not 100% set on them yet, I am thinking they would be perfect. If you knew the pattern I was going with you might love them as much as I do, and see why they were the first choices I made.

Take a look over here to see what everyone's inspirations are, pretty soon you will start to see other fabric choices made by members. It's all SEW exciting. More to come

Also a BIG thank you to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday, you all really made the day that much better.

What does 30 feel like??

It's like waking up after an extra 3 hours of sleep, to a dozen pink roses, a giddy little girl who just spent the whole morning with Dad. Lots of cute kisses and a little voice saying "hi momma" at the end of my bed.

If this is how wonderful 30 is, then I do not need to age another day.
