Sunday Stash :: Voile

Sunday Stash, originally uploaded by Sew-Fantastic.

Nothing like some yummy fabrics to bring out a little sunshine in a long week. Sophie had a little cold bug and has spent the last 3 nights coughing herself awake. I wish I could fix her. As daddy took care of the little one yesterday me and Heather had some things to swap and decided to hit our LQS while we had a little free time.

Lucky for us there was a SALE!!! Don't you love those unexpected sale days when you just happened to show up. I picked up these Anna Mari Horner dobby dot voile fabrics at 20% off. They are fantastic in real life. Sometimes it's hard to buy online when you are unsure of the feel and how it can incororate into what you like to sew most.

Do you all chance the buy online, or do you like to see it up cose and personal first? Does it matter if the price is really great? How do you fabric shop?

I also found this FANTASTIC Sign for my sewing room!!
What do you think.
Sorry about the bad photo it was hard getting this shot with all the bright sunshine coming in today!

  1. Yes, isn't it too bad about the great sunshine today :) ?

I love seeing fabrics in person, but there have been many that I have fallen in love with just seeing them online. It's really hard to know how they will blend with other fabrics though until you see them in person. I try to wait and buy the fabrics that I want on sale, either locally or online. I love online shopping, but I also strongly believe in supporting local shops because I love having them.

  2. LOL! Love the sign. I am being a good girl and staying away from Bolt's sale. I have not even touched the fabric I bought at their last one :)

  3. I would love to have a LQS! Love it. But we don't. Wah wah. It's Joann's or online. More than a couple of times when I got the fabric I ordered online the color was much different than I imagined or the scale was bigger or smaller. Consider yourself lucky to have such a rad local shop. Super jealous!

  6. I shop both ways, lately more online than LQS because things have been too hectic.

And now for a while, I need to STOP shopping and START sewing. :)

  7. Is it still a "LQS" if it's over 25 miles away? Nothing closer open any more around here, so online or not at all. Come to think of it, I could try that second option for a while!!!!

  8. Oh Man Julie and Mary I feel for you. I couldn't imagine not having one or even just having a Joanns. I love Joanns and shop their a ton but would never purchase fabric there. The quality would have to be brought up for my to consider it ever again.

  9. Ooooh... so lovely...!! and on sale too! you are SO lucky. I have been looking online for the voile but now there is no flying because of the volcano I'm cut off from USA fabric supply! (yeah I know... not the worst effect it has had..). I DID look if BOLT had internet shopping (having both the voile AND a sale) but they don't... oh well... Love your fabrics and hope you have fun making something with it.

  10. Pretty fabric! I shop online and at shops...when I got to a quilt shop I tend to buy things that are unique and then check out things that I really like and have seen online but want to see in person...then if I love something I will usually purchase it online since it tends to be much cheaper (Hawthorne Threads, Etsy, etc.). Then I have a few little things to take home with me and also get to wait for a fun package to arrive in the mail! :) Hope Sophie feels better soon- I have a 1 yo and a 2 yo and I know it's no fun when they're sick. :(

  11. I am with you Raven , I love Hawthorne Threads. Ever since I met Charlie and lindsay it's been very hard to even look at other shops. I tend to build my lines around what they bring in.

However I also support my local shop here in town. Joan is right if we do not, then they will be gone.

  12. I have just one LQS and they only carry a very limited selection of Amy Butler and Heather Bailey, which I love. The rest seems to be pretty old-ladyish. I like taking classes there, though.
I usually buy my fabric online, unless the LQS is having a good sale. I mean, online it's ~$7.50/yd versus LQS is $10.50/yd. Makes much more sense.

  13. Poor Sophie! When Brice had a cold and cough we put a cool mist humidifier in his room and that made it so he didn't cough through the night. It was very helpful. Was it a bad crush at Bolt? I always try and avoid sale days there. I'm not good with crowds.
