WIP Finished :: & a New talent - Hexagons

As soon as I saw the new echino line, I wanted to make a market tote. I got some time yesterday to finish up an idea I had for a gift. Just a little thank you to a friend for putting together some FAB flickr groups. After my first order of the line, seen in my Sunday Stash report. I wanted some of the brighter colors, so I put in another order here.

The pattern is the Jane Market bag from posie gets cozy, I added only a few modifications to this one. Since it was for a friend I didn't really want to put a shop tag on it. So where I usually put my logo, I decided to put part of the selvage sewn on instead. And since my friend is an uber freak for Hexes. I added some of those to.

I also ran it to her house last night after reading her comments on flickr about how excited she was to get it. I love that this gift was received with such enthusiasm. Thanks Heather!

She took a few minutes to show me a faster way to do the hexes, being that my attempt for this bag was such a pain in my rear. I almost decided against them all together. But after she showed me, it clicked. SEW easy and faster then I had thought. She was using the paper pieces where I had the plastic ones before. After learning the paper way, I quickly went home to order these.(free shipping until the 15th)

Between this and my new found love for embroidery, I have something to do on those days when I don't have the time to sit at my sewing machine. The best part is that Sophia loves to watch me make them.

Have you learned something new recently? I would love to hear about it.

  1. Wow, that bag blew me away! The echino label is so perfect! I love how the hexes look like dice from far away.

    I've recently taught myself how to make baby clothes, and made a skirt and dress (on my blog). I'm pretty proud of myself.

  5. Ooh, sexy hexies, Terri! I love paper-piecing--that is something I never thought I'd say. I have some 2" hexies I'm working on for a large charm throw for my living room. The handwork is very soothing.

    And that bag is adorable. One of these days, I will have to suck it up and try my hand at making bags. So much to do, and so little time! Something I haven't learned yet, I guess, but something I will soon!

    Thanks, Terri. Have an awesome weekend!

  6. i am SOOOO jealous of heather right now!! that market bag is too awesome. paper piecing the hexes are much easier, sadly it's the sewing them together part that might drive me insane. I just might bee a bit too anal retentive to do it, or OCD, or maybe both!! I am doing all mine in the FMF also (it took me weeks to collect as many prints that I could get my hands on), aren't they just too gorgeous!!
