Heather Ross MISC Package :: Arrived

Just about a month ago "THE" Heather Ross announced on her blog that she would be cleaning out her studio. All she wanted from us was an innocent email about ourselves and our families. What we like to do, and maybe what our favorite Heather Ross fabric was.

You had the option of a 25 dollar box, a 50, 100, or 200.00 box. The box would be things from her studio worth more then the amount we paid. I am a simple girl I asked for a 50.00 box (kicking myself that I didn't as for more now) After biting my nails off and bugging my postman to death, checking my tracking number every 30 seconds.... the package arrived today.

I love everything she sent me. Not just because it's her fabric, but because its from her studio. I just about felt a little star struck. Julie asked me if I was buddies with Heather Ross the other day, I said boy do I wish. However I would probably drool at her creative genius just being in the same room as her.

I think I will take a piece of each of the fabrics, along with the letter she sent and frame it for my sewing room. What do you think?

On another note, check out this funny sign they had over at Sophie's favorite indoor park.

Have a great week everyone.

Vintage Quills

This is the some of the loot that me and Sarah brought home Thursday from the quilting expo. It was so cool to see so much 3D action going on this year. almost every quilt we saw had some kind of texture to it. the detail was amazing this year as well.
Lynette Jensen was signing books, Quilters from local and not so local guilds came with all their beautiful pieces, and fabric shops from Washington, Oregon, and California came with beautiful fabrics and vintage goodies. Karen, me and Sarah both hope to see you again in November.
It was Eye Candy all day long. I am inspired for another year of creativity. Thank you to everyone who made mine, and Sarah's day definitely one to remember.

Sharing :: Wholesale fabric link :)

Wow long time no post, well for me that is. I still have so much to catch up on. I wanted to share a great link for all my fabric lovers out there. With the economy the way it has been we all need a little break here and there. I want to share with you a group on yahoo that I am in called a fabric co-op. This is basically a group where you can buy fabric at wholesale prices, as well as bulk. We just closed an order for some park slope and Amy Butler closeouts at 3.50 - 4.50 a yard. That is great huh.

The super sweet leaders use there wholesale ability to buy the orders for us, if we can fill a bolt order she will order it. Great huh. The more people in the group we have that order the easier it is to fill a 15 yard bolt. I also just ordered Kona quilting cotton solids at 3.50 a yard as well. All you pay is the price of the fabric, plus pay pal fees and shipping. This is a great way to save you some cash.. Go ahead try it out. here is the link. Yahoo fabric co-op

Also I made these a few days ago but since Sarah wanted to see them I thought I would show you all to. The picture above I made for my fabric shopping trip this weekend. Pattern is Jane's Market bag. Fun to make and pretty easy for beginners if you would like to give it a try. Fabrics used are Denyse Schmidt's county fair Home Dec collection.

Happy Sewing.

With full intention...

So after work today at my regular job, yes I also have a part time Job and this is my first week back after 3 weeks off for vacation. Anyway I got home and Dad had decided on a phone. We were headed over to Best buy to buy our new palm pre phones. YAY. After much deliberating that was the phone I wanted as well.
Most of it was riding on news about the service on AT&T. Supposedly they are known for bad customer service and dropping calls. The Palm Pre was serviced with Sprint, had a few things that iPhone did not.
For instance:: The Palm Pree can open more then one app at the same time. The size is slightly smaller and more compact, not to mention it was 150 dollars cheaper with the same contract.

We walked in to best buy, admired the phone section for a few minutes, then saw the palm pre. YUK!! I hated it, the way it looked the way it felt. I hate the way the keypad is the phone so small and looks like I would get frustrated using it. I loved that phone online but seeing it in real life just didn't do anything for me at all..

So I bet you know what we did next.... Yup! We went to see the iPhone. We both could not stop playing with it. Seriously the phone ROCKS. We ended up waling out of the store with 2 new iPhones, excited that we had made a great purchase.
Mr. Sew Fantastic is sacrificing sleep already to play with his, and I am super stoked that I can have my etsy business on the go all the time now, not to mention so many other perks.
I should also add that Best buy messed up our phone number transfer as well, so we had to call AT&T when we got home to fix the problem. Our first experience with them was wonderful, they were very nice and very helpful to.
Thank you Mr. Sew Fantastic for my brand new iPhone... I love it

So when we had decided that iPhone was only the most picked because of it's popularity, boy were we wrong.

The Moral of this story is:: Bigger usually is better at least that was my husband says when it comes to electronics. :)

ANYONE KNOW ANY GREAT APPS???

I-Phone VS Palm Pre :: HELP PLEASE

Left:: IPhone Right :: Palm Pre
PLEASE HELP ME. We are in the market for new phones this weekend. Mr Sew Fantastic is driving me crazy going back and fourth with 2 phones. Now the phones are quite similar I think it's the company he is having problems with Who knows.

Now I have to admit I am still in use of a simple razor phone with my cute little purple cover one it. Bottom line is I am ready to have access to my email as well as all the cool apps, I am ready to grow up Ha!
So
I told Mr. Sew Fantastic that I would ask all of you. I realize that the Palm Pre is a very new phone. It's supposed to be the closest thing to the I-phone you can get, however because it's new the phone is not as mature as the IPhone. The second would be I-phone (AT&T) or Palm Pre (SPRINT) company, how do they compare. So what do you all think? I know a lot of you have the I-phone, do you like it? What do you not like about it?

THANK YOU FOR HELPING OUT MR. SEW FANTASTIC

Thank you everyone for your input.... We are buying our new phone today (Saturday) I am stoked and I think we made the best choice for what we needed. Wanna know what were getting? You will have to check back ha!

Special Delivery:: Mixed Media Art

I am beyond excited to introduce someone that I have met here in blog land. Someone who has not only brought some wonderful color into my families life, but smiles to my little Sophia's face as well.
I met Chrissie Grace through Julie over at Joy's Hope. Almost instantly I was in her shop picking out wonderful new prints for Sophia's room. We had just decided to go with an all color theme. Tons of bright colors everywhere in her room. No kid can grow out of every color you know.
I purchased 4 of her mixed media prints (3 shown) and took them down to Joann's fabrics to have them custom framed in bright colorful frames. Three weeks later here they are.
The frames turned out wonderful, matching the colors in each print so beautifully. I must admit I am honored to display these pieces of art in my daughters room. The messages are not only uplifting and positive but really give you a warm feeling in your heart. I cannot describe the feeling this simple purchase has brought into our lives, I can only suggest that you stop by her shop and grab some yourself.

This woman is heaven sent and a rare talent.
Thank you Chrissie Grace for bringing something so simple as a piece of art, to our family. We all live in bright colors here, and we have you to thank.

(Chrissie says) "I am inspired by the strength in women.
Our lives are never easy, never mundane. In the midst of chaos, there is always beauty and hope.
The women I paint represent the many women in my life who show strength, courage, humor, and resilency every day. There is a little (or a lot) of "She said" in all of us.
Affirmations and positive thinking are essential in all our lives, and I like to include a little of that in all of my work "

Disappearing nine patch :: Tutorial

This is what is on my craft table today. I have gathered some of my favorite red and Aqua fabrics, to join in the fun over at Jane's blog.
The challenge is 25 nine patch blocks done in only red and aqua's cut each into 4 and come out with a total of 100 blocks. Then they will be sent to Jane to mix up and send out randomly back to all of us.

Now because this is a swap, I felt I could get a little more crazy with the fabrics I chose. I think was right to, they all look great together.

I happen to know that a lot of you are beginner quilters, I thought I would set up a little tutorial for you to make your own. Even though it's a fairly easy block, when you are learning to quilt it makes it so much easier to see it done in real life. Right?

We are making a disappearing nine patch block that will measure 12.5 x 12.5 when finished.
You will start by cutting 4.5 x 4.5 inch blocks from all of the lovely fabrics you have chosen. Choose the layout of your first block by picking out 9 of the 4.5 x 4.5 inch blocks that you have just cut.
Align them 3 blocks by 3 blocks like you see in the picture below.
I sew mine in rows, so the first row of three get sewn together with a 1/4 inch seam then I move on to the second row. After you have done all 3 rows sew the first row to the second, matching the seam lines. (makes it easier if you pin them in place).
Then sew the first and second row piece to the third row piece.
**Hint** I am a sucker for a smooth flat quilt so I iron my seams open to have the blocks lay flatter, this is only a preference
Now you should have a nine patch block 3 down and 3 across to make one square.

After you have a block with nine patches all sewn together, the block should measure about
12.5 x 12.5 square.
I recommend an omnigrid 12.5x12.5 see through ruler to square up your block.

Now to make the disappearing nine patch part.
Take your nine patch block and cut it in fourths right down the middle. (see picture). This will make four separate quadrants. I found the easiest way to get the center was to measure 2 inches from the middle block, but you can find center however is easiest for you.

You should now have 4 blocks that measure 6-1/4 x 6-1/4. How many you need total, will depend on the size you desire for the finished quilt. To make more blocks continue the process over with step one again.

The fun part about this quilt is you can re-arrange the blocks in almost any design you want to make it fit your taste. This is wonderful for beginning quilting, and easy to.
If you are having problems with measurements I would suggest a 1/4 inch foot for your sewing machine. They come in metal and plastic to help you keep that 1/4 inch seam consistent.
I do not recommend the plastic one as it bends and could give you an inconsistent block measurement over time. Here is a helpful website as well.

That's it.
I hope you all have fun making this quilt block, and please feel free to leave questions. I am here to help. Just make sure you leave an email if you would like a reply.
HAPPY QUILTING.

Sunday Stash :: Buttons

Today's stash is the little button collection I have been staring at all day. I have been collecting large cute buttons for my carryall clutches in the shop. I just love to stare at them, some are recycled from clothing and some are new most of them I get here and here. But I love everyone of them the same. They give my carryall clutches each their very own personalities I think.

Sunday stash is hosted by 1/4 inch you can view every ones stash here in the flicker group.
Happy Sunday everyone, and have a safe Labor Day weekend.

FANTASTIC Find :: Kritter Tables

After months of searching for a small , yet sturdy table and chairs set for Sophia; we decided to take a gander on over at IKEA today. We were there about 2 hours going back and fourth on what would be the best for her in the long run. Just somewhere that she could sit and do her puzzles, or color on her Aqua doodle.

We wanted something that she could get in to an up from, as well as being small enough to put in her room, and strength was a HUGE factor to. After much back and fourth we purchased the Kritter table and chairs.

Now this may not be a big deal to everyone else, but the first places I looked. i.e. Target They had wonderful sets in cute colors, but for a pricey buck. I am talking over $100.00

This set at IKEA was $50.97 TOTAL

yes $12.99 for each chair and $24.99 for the table they are so strong and super cute to. Available in a few colors as well, plus they have little kitties and puppies engraved into the backs of the chairs. Sophia just loves them, she played with them all day today.

Sorry for the blurry pictures, but see...she loves it.
