Did everyone have a great holiday?
I have been taking some time off enjoying some fun sewing projects. We closed round 8 of the Pillow Talk swap today. This was a quick round, and there was no time to procrastinate.
I went with my first gut feeling on what my partner might like. With only 4 weeks to complete I got right to work using a bright mix pulled from my stash. This pillow was created using an English paper piecing technique.
Each piece is sewn individually by hand using these pieces..
Large Jewel shape (JWLLG)
2" Triangle Shape (TRI200)
2" 6 point Diamond Shape (6DIA200)
1" Hexagon (HEX100)
I buy my pieces here " Paper Pieces"
It's a litte hard to see in the photo, but all the gray backround pieces are actually a text print. I love that it almost looks solid but adds that little detail when you look closely.
The center hexagons are a solid Kona with a touch of embroidery to add a little pop. My original idea was to put french knots there. After seeing it on the pillow I hated it, so the stars were my next choice.
The back is simple (just how I like it). Double quilted, on both pieces using some of the leftover text print from the front, as well as a coordinating print from the same sunkissed Sweetwater line. A touch of leftover scraps from the front make the perfect little accent.
After it was all said and done this was the first pillow I decided not to put a binding on. I didn't want to take away from the pieced design. I am very happy with the outcome of subtracting the binding.
The grid quilting gives it a nice accent and will also protect those little handsewn pieces from a little wear over time. I really hope my partner enjoys this pillow as much as I did creating it for them.
The pillow is shown with a 20x20" pillow form
I even sent a few little goodies along.
